Position Description

Chaos Labs is the first automated, on-chain economic security system enabling crypto protocols to optimize risk management and capital efficiency while protecting user funds. We use world-class custom EVM and on-chain simulations to understand protocol mechanics and scenario implications.

Our platform and tools are used by leading protocols, helping them manage and secure billions of dollars in assets such as Aave, Benqi, Osmosis, Uniswap, and more.

We’re looking for a Head of Risk in our NYC office to help build trailblazing models and products to better secure DeFi protocols.
This role will be an influential leader both concerning the company’s product and strategic direction, and interacting closely with customers across the market. You will be integral to expanding Chao’s risk frameworks and in-depth modeling efforts to better protect the largest protocols and institutions in DeFi.

We are looking for a candidate with domain expertise in crypto risk and a track record of success and a people manager who can help grow, retain, and amplify the team beneath them.

Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with the CEO and leadership to in defining product strategy and roadmap
  • Coordinate with business development to assess and onboard new clients for risk optimization engagements
  • Scope and lead short- and long-term risk, data science, and modeling projects with a rapidly growing team of hand-picked experts covering all aspects of DeFi risk
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of systems to calculate risk metrics for partner protocols
  • Identify, measure, and manage market risks across Chaos and its customers
  • Leverage on-chain information to enable data-driven decision-making and risk management
  • Monitor the market for shifting trends and developments in web3 that could impact the business and risk-prevention capabilities
  • Engage with customers and strategic partners in support of product efforts, providing risk expertise to ensure their success
  • In times of crisis (i.e., when a protocol is under attack or a vulnerability is detected), assist in reaction/recovery efforts to ensure the protection of client user funds
  • Acting as a mentor to team members for both technical and personal growth
  • Establish a world-class, innovative risk and data science organization
  • [Bonus] Represent Chaos in the media (podcasts, conferences, panels, etc.) in discussing company products and current themes in risk management

    • Requirements

  • NYC-area based
  • 10+ years experience in financial risk management
  • Focusing primarily on market and trade risk with experience with simulations
  • Have owned risk previously with complete control of models, processes, and outcomes impacting company/fund assets
  • 1+ years of experience in web3
  • Intimate knowledge of the underlying risks to major DeFi primitives such as Aave, Compound, Maker, Terra/UST, and more
  • Degree in finance, computer science, or other quantitative subjects
  • Experience with financial data and processes and the ability to work closely with engineering and product teams
  • Knowledge of the crypto market structure and market data, especially within DeFi
  • Experience in Python, SQL, Excel, and other relevant platforms
  • History of 0-1 process and program creation where you find problems and solve them with minimal oversight
  • Deep care for your fellow employees with a desire to set them up for success at all levels of the company
  • Demonstrated experience (& excitement for) working in self-managed, fast-paced environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to explain complex topics in a straightforward way to both crypto-native and novice audiences
  • Able to understand and communicate technical trade-offs to audiences throughout the company
